The Mind of a Mnemonist, by Aleksandr R. Luria, Lynn Solotaroff (Translator)
The Mind of a Mnemonist, by Aleksandr R. Luria, is a very cool book about S.V. Shereshevskii, a Russian man who has an unstoppable memory.#
The book discusses the extent of his memory--infinite--and how having such a memory changes how he interacts with the world. His memory is based mainly on images, but also on general synesthesia. This makes it difficult for him to reason abstractly, because all words have vivid images associated with them, and when that image does not make sense in the context of the abstraction or when more information (say in a novel) is revealed about the situation.#
One of the things I found most interesting was how S. remembered vivid experiences from his early (less than 6 months old) life.#
Quite a short read, quite interesting.#
