Movie: Armaan (2003)
Armaan stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, and Gracy Singh.#
I thought this was a pretty fabulous movie. The story is interesting, although not incredibly original. Where the movie shines is the realistic characters, and particular Preity's portrayal of a spoiled young girl. She is incredibly believable in her viciousness. Gracy Singh is admirable, although in retrospect, her role did not give her much opportunity to make a stand, as she essenitally plays second fiddle to Anil and Preity.#
One complaint of mine is with the substance of the story, actually. For one reason or another, Preity's father gets Anil to agree to marry her when he loves Gracy. I think that it was against the image that was setup for his character that he would not be incredibly loving to Preity, even if faking. And secondly, when Preity is jealous about the continued interaction between the two, Anil's character doesn't even bother to explain the situation, instead yelling at her and saying that she is mean for even considering it. I thought this was a bit of a childish approach, if taken from the start. Overall, these are not important issues for enjoying the film though.#
Recommendation: Medium, but on the High side.#
